April 19, 1956, Establishment of a Preparation Committee for Guangzhou Branch, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
December 29, 1958, Formal establishment of Guangzhou Branch, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
January 25, 1961, Establishment of Central-South China Branch, Chinese Academy of Sciences on the basis of merging Guangzhou Branch with Wuhan Branch.
December 30, 1969, Revocation of Central-South China Branch, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
May 23, 1978, Reestablishment of Guangzhou Branch, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
January 5, 1978, Establishment of Guangdong Provincial Academy of Sciences. Then, both Guangzhou Branch, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Guangdong Provincial Academy of Sciences began to be administrated by a same headquarter, operating in a "two institutions sharing one set of management organs" model.
June 28, 2015, a new Guangdong Provincial Academy of Sciences was established according to the direction from CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee. Then, Guangzhou Branch, Chinese Academy of Sciences was separated from Guangdong Provincial Academy of Sciences, and the former began to operate independently.
