Scientists from South China Botanical Garden visited Vietnam

  From Jul. 15 to 30, 2009,headed by the Director, Prof. Huang Hongwen, 4 scientists from South China Botanical Garden visited Vietnam. During the 15 days tour, the delegation investigated on and collected information of Vietnam botanical resources and had extended communication with relevant parties of Vietnam.
  The delegation visited institutions such as Vietnam Academy of Forestry Science, Vietnam Forestry University, and field investigated Bidup-Nuiba National Park in Lam Don Province, Hon Ba Protection Zone in Nha Trang Province in South Vietnam; and Cuc Phuong National Park in Central part of Vietnam; and Phu Tho, Yen Bai, Lai Chau, Dien Bien Phu, Sonla Provinces in North and Northeast Vietnam. The delegation gained a comprehensive survey of the plant diversity and the status quo of the protection.
  Through the half-month field investigation, the delegation gathered more than 200 breeding items of important plants (rhizome, corm, tress, seedling, etc) and certain DNA information. The tour measured more than 6000 km. During the visit, South China Botanical Garden reached preliminary intent of cooperation with Vietnam Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on establishing National Botanical Garden in Hanoi; agreed with Vietnam Academy of Forestry Science on founding a long-term monitoring station for the plant diversity and conducting joint field investigation; and discussed and agreed with Vietnam Forestry University on collaborative research on the biodiversity in Vietnam.
